How do I download large video files?

I have 80 miniDVCAM videos that I will convert to digital files but then how do I download such large files to a data storage facility to be able to use them later from anywhere? Do I compress them some how? Is the a software that will do this for me? Each video is 60 mins in length! What will that translate to in digital size 2-3GB? Or what?
