Well, they're different products, but I don't think they're altogether independent. Chalk and cheese are independent, Software Informer and Free Download Manager complement one another.

The former lets a user know which programs have updates available and the latter enables a user to download updates during low-traffic times on the internet.

My understanding is that one can link the fomer to the latter and thereby automatically schedule not only downloads (using Free Download Manger), but also what's downloaded (using Software Informer).

That's the potential link as I understand it: Software Informer tells Free Download Manager what to download and Free Download Manager follows the off-hours schedule to do just that. Is that your understanding of how the two programs are supposed to work together in tandem?

If there's anyone out there who knows how to set up either or both of the programs, I'd appreciate your help. Thanks.

The way this works is with human intervention. You use SI to find out what updates are available. YOU locate the proper links for the software you want to download and import them into Free Download Manager and schedule it to download the files at the appropriate time. After the downloads have completed, you can then install the updates and (possibly) begin the entire process over again.

<![CDATA[Lost & crying in the woods]]> I downloaded both Software Informer and Free Download Manager in the belief that the programs could be configured to work in tandem; however, I can't decipher the instructions of either program.

Can anyone help? Thanks.
