Topic: My Dislike about si

Good Morning,

I think this appliction is brilliant and I love what it does but I think there is one massive thing that should be fixed.

By default or as an option I don't think it should tell you about updates for paid software like Nero, Office etc unless its a Minor/Build update that you can download for Free.

I don't want to constantly be reminded that I am Running Nero 7 and Nero 8 is out. I bought Nero 7 and I am not going to buy Nero 8 or that fact 9 now that its out the point is it should only list FREE programs or FREE updates to paid programs that can be downloaded and installed.

Possibly have an entirly new section for Paid software that you can buy a new version.

See where I am coming from?

Currently SI only allows to Enable or Disable Notifications about new versions.

But for programs like Internet Explorer, I would like to be notified if there are minor updates to the version I have installed (e.g. 6.0.2900.5512) but not be notified that the current latest version is 8.0.7100

SI does not seem able to read what Operating System, the software is running on, and advise the correct version numbers for the latest iterations of that software. E.g. I am running Windows Vista SP1, yet your program list that the latest version of Microsoft Defender is 6.7 something, yet if I try to download, my system reports that that is an older version of the software I am running.
Might you have a work around in place whereby the individual user has to identify their operating system, and then your software has a step for a hint about advising the correct latest version numbers for that OS. Though I would have thought that you should be able to determine the OS remotely.

Good feature, but it is not working for me. 

I have deselected a half dozen programs for update notification (mostly those that want new license fees), selected O.K., closed the siClient and my internet page.  When I open siClient back up up it shows I have deselected those programs, but still offers updates on my page.

Because I used the client option to not report certain program updates because I found them to be either wrong, or refer to license fee updates instead of the original license or freeware.  After making that option change in the client, the accessed website still reports the wrong and license fee updates.

I also do not want to be notified of updates for programs that I need to be paid for again as I will update them if I want to, I'm happy with the version that I have and want to keep on using that particular version. Does SI have any means of determining which software have to be bought again if upgraded, and thereby giving an option to switch off such upgrade suggestions? Otherwise a superb concept. Keep up the good work.

I think another problem is that SIclient search for software and their version in the registry.
It could be useful to have the possibility to manually specify where is a software, and SI get it's version number with the exe's version number.

For example, I use 2 different version of an open source game called battle for wesnoth. SI only see that I have the 1.6.5 and specify that the latest version is the 1.7.5 ( and it's wrong, versions 1.7.x are only beta, and the last beta is 1.7.6).
Another example when it could be useful is for software that don't need to write entry in the registry, like miranda IM. There are 2 kinds of "distribution": the first is an installer, other is a 7z archive. The problem is that I don't want to respecify each option on each version, especially if the software's development team is active.
