Microsoft adds ChatGPT-4 Turbo to Bing Chat
So far, the feature is on the testing bench, i.e., you’ll be able to try it out if you’re part of Microsoft's tester pool and lucky enough to attract the attention of the mighty randomizer. If all goes as planned, though, everyone will have the opportunity to use ChatGPT-4 Turbo right from the Bing Chat interface, free of charge.
What is ChatGPT-4 Turbo?
You can call it a fork, or a version of ChatGPT-4 compiled specifically for Microsoft’s Bing Chat. The ocean of information the AI dives into looking to be helpful in response to your queries includes data through April 2023, which means it’s almost up to speed.
Another noteworthy feature of ChatGPT-4 Turbo is its ability to interpret emotions. If you’ve ever tried to ask an AI of the GPT family to describe a photo, for example, and/or inquire about feelings expressed thereon, you’ve seen answers like “I’m a machine, human emotions escape me.” Well, Turbo remedies this behavior and honestly tries to give you the description you request without skipping on anything.
While GPT-4 Turbo is the latest one on the OpenAI’s respective line, Microsoft, the primary customer, dishes it to its users in a selective manner: depending on your query, you may have it processed by an older model. This actually makes sense from the load distribution point of view, and such a pattern may allow the company to A/B test the AIs against each other, an exercise that should yield valuable insights unattainable otherwise.
How to check if you’re using the latest GPT-4 Turbo in Bing Chat?
Given the power of OpenAI’s products, it really matters little what build works on your query in the vast majority of cases. But if you are curious, there’s a way to see if it's the Turbo prepping the answer: open the page’s source code (Control+U in Microsoft Edge) and look for dlgpt4t there using the Find (Ctrl+F) function.
