2016 has been full of events some happy, some sad, but we definitely can't complain about having to go through a boring year. Coming back to our area of interest, there were also quite a few noteworthy technical innovations that have made their way to the general public and which are deserving of a recap. So, from all-in-one PCs that revolutionized the market and fire-catching smartphones to self-tying sneakers and cool electrical cars, here are the top tech news of 2016.
Apple AirPods
Apple surprised a lot of people this fall when it first announced its new wireless earbuds, the AirPods. They might not be a huge innovation, but the AirPods are undoubtedly one of the most talked about and appreciated products of the year, so they deserve a spot on this list. Furthermore, Apple has finally managed to start shipping the AirPods this December, so everyone who wants to can try them out for themselves.
Microsoft Surface Studio
A while back, Apple took over a lot of Microsoft's territory with its all-in-one hardware perfect for those who need a computer to create. This year Microsoft has managed to return the favor with the launch of its new Surface Studio, an impressive device that we didn't even know we needed until we saw it. This all-in-one PC with a 28-inch PixelSense screen isn't only the thinnest display ever made, but also a must-see product.
Nike Hyperadapt
I'll admit that humanity has many much bigger problems in need of solving, but how cool is it to have a pair snickers that tie themselves up? In 2016, Nike has finally started mass-producing and retailing its sneakers with Hyperadapt self-tying technology, so you can grab a pair for yourself as long as you can afford it. Hey, Nike! How's that time-machine coming?
Galaxy Note 7
Without question one of the most mediated subject of 2016 was Samsung's giant Galaxy Note 7 fiasco. As you probably know, the original phones were bursting into flames like they were auditioning for Katniss Everdeen's part in the Hunger Games, then the replacement models started catching fire as well until the Korean giant was forced to completely take them off the market, offering refunds, replacements and apologies. Unfortunately, the Galaxy Note 7 seemed like a really awesome smartphone, so hopefully next year's model can keep all the good stuff without losing its cool.
Tesla Model 3
I may not know that much about cars, but the Tesla Model 3 is easy to appreciate even for a newbie like me. What's not to like in an electrical car with a sporty look, which can go from 0 to 60 mph in 6 seconds and that has trunks front and back, autopilot functionality as well as the most beautiful sun roof ever?
