Files being downloaded as .rar show up a .exe on my mac, why?

Since getting my Macbook pro, almost all files that are downloaded as .rar extensions show up as .exe extension. Anyone have any idea why, is there a virus out there or someone just screwing with people downloading from the usenet services? Know it sounds crazy but its a thought.

Try another broswer. It may help.
